Staigue Fort is one of the cahers or cashels or Stone Forts which are numerous in Iveragh, Co. Kerry and which are typical of the west coast of Ireland in general. Some of these are in ruins but others which are in ruins such as Cahergal (near Cahersiveen) Dun Aongus (Inis Mor, Aran Islands, Co. Galway) and Grianan Aileach (Co. Donegal) are in good condition having been reconstructed to a greater or lesser degree by the Board of Works. Staigye Fort is in a fairly good state of preservation and doesn't show any obvious signs of having been remodelled on a big scale.
